ARTLESS
Tanzparty Deutschland
CD
From Duisburg with the exception of the DÖDELHAIE never really bands of supraregional interest. An exception were ARTLESS, which caused a sensation between 1979 and 1981. They played very simple German-speaking punk rock, as he was characteristic of the time far. Typically Ruhrpott, very close to the base and scene-related. The lyrics told stories from life and were never dull or obscene. Legendary she was through the movie "No Future", which was broadcast in 1981 by the ARD in the morning program, which has since received countless repetitions and will soon be released on DVD. For this film, which dealt with the then very busy Duisburg punk scene, ARTLESS appropriately supplied the soundtrack. Her hit was undoubtedly the single "My brother is'en Popper", which is still one of the funniest and most wanted singles of those days. This CD contains her "Tanzparty Deutschland" demo from 1980, which appeared years ago as an LP, but which is sold out for a long time. You can hear all their hits like "Donnerwetter", "Großstadt", "Mein Bruder ist'en Popper", "Peace & Anarchy", "Unrasiert and UngekÀmmt", "Punk 80" and many more. Sure, there are also weaker pieces, but all in all, the whole thing is very great. Of course, the sound has the classic charm of the 80s, as good equipment and recording technology was not as widespread as it is today. But this is exactly what makes the recordings sound very authentic. And I have a real liking for the always slightly schrammeligen and thin sound of the 80s. This makes bands like ARTLESS sound very real. It just becomes clear that these bands fit exactly into the 80s and nowhere else. The CD is rounded off with 13 live songs, recorded in 1981 in Essen. The quality is consistently acceptable, although the recordings are in itself something for the Die Hard fans. The artwork has lots of great old photos, lyrics, old fanzines and some introductory words to the band. ARTLESS were a real original of the 80s punk scene in Germany. And this CD is a captivating, important document. If any DDR punk band today is dug up again and gains cult status, then ARTLESS deserve this as well. Teenage Rebel Records.
